Jacob & Co. Astronomia Sky Celestial Panorama Gravitational Triple Axis Tourbillon Review

At Baselworld 2016, Jacob & Co. unveiled a new version of its much-loved Astronomia superwatch, called the Jacob & Co. Astronomia Sky Celestial Panorama Gravitational Triple Axis Tourbillon. The “Jacob & Co. Astronomia Sky” isn’t a replacement, but rather a complement to the original Jacob & Co. Astronomia (click here to experience it), with a few added complications and an actually smaller case size. replica Jacob & Co Astronomia Solar

The Jacob & Co. Astronomia Sky is “only” 47mm wide and 25mm thick, compared to the standard Astronomia’s 50mm wide dimensions. Because it’s so thin, nobody wears such a watch, but Jacob & Co. was asked to make a more wearable version of its fun Astronomia. Also note that the images we captured of the Jacob & Co. Astronomia Sky Celestial Panorama Gravitational Triple Axis Tourbillon are of a pre-production prototype. One key element missing from this prototype watch is the lack of an anti-reflective coating on the sapphire crystal. This makes readability quite poor and it is almost impossible to capture details of the watch through the crystal. Just mentioning this because the "final" version of the watch will not have these crystal glare issues.

The first release of the Jacob & Co. Astronomia Sky Celestial Panorama Gravitational Triple Axis Tourbillon features an 18k rose gold case with a large domed sapphire crystal on top and a middle sapphire crystal ring around the side of the case. It makes viewing the interior of the watch and the movement very simple and attractive. And, yes, there is a pen to go with it. Well, actually these are pens that go with the Astronomia replica watches swiss as a whole, and they are produced by Visconti of Italy in collaboration with Jacob & Co. These are also pre-production prototypes, and they will come in 18k rose gold and 18 white gold.

The entire design focus of the Astronomia was to offer a “four-arm” movement that features a dial showing the time (the dial rotates to stay upright as the entire movement structure rotates on an axis), a tourbillon (technically moves around two axis points), a rotating seconds indicator, and a rotating sphere opposite the seconds indicator. The Jacob & Co. Astronomia Sky more or less retains this functionality (albeit in a different style and execution), and adds a few astronomical complications.

Looking through the side of the case to the edge of the dial, you’ll see a month indicator that moves with a small hand following the 12-month scale around the dial. Now, look at the center of the four-arm movement structure, and above it, you’ll find a small sphere designed to look like a globe. This globe sphere has a hemispherical cover that moves around it to act as a day/night indicator. There are two pivot points to note here, they are the 24 hour rotation of the day/night indicator and the fact that the Earth rotates once every 20 minutes, as this is how long the four-arm movement rotates. The little "globe" itself is made of titanium and then hand-painted and engraved. replica Franck Muller Watches

The watch dial is located below the movement and features a star map with a series of zodiac indicators on top. The dial is made of blue titanium (similar to the De Bethune watches we have long loved) and features an oval "sky indicator" hand. The entire dial actually rotates once per year, and the oval sky indicator hand rotates once per sidereal day (about one day) to display the stars visible in the Northern Hemisphere.

As you can see, Jacob & Co. wanted to pack a lot of astronomical information into their Astronomia watches, and I think they did a great job with the Jacob & Co. Astronomia Sky while actually making this watch smaller. Of course, this high quality cheap watches is still a serious "showpiece" and most of its value is in the design and the show-off of the beautiful mechanics.

The Jacob & Co. Astronomia Sky Celestial Panorama Gravitational Triple Axis Tourbillon features a slightly altered movement design compared to the original Astronomia. Here the “Jacob Cut” diamond is replaced by a Jacob Cut orange sapphire that rotates, making one rotation per minute, shaped like a sphere and featuring 288 facets. Opposite this Jacob Cut sapphire crystal is a second indicator hand that is complemented by some wave-like structures that together represent an orbiting satellite.

The movement inside the watch is Jacob & Co’s exclusive (also produced by Studio7h38) JCAM11 calibre. The manually wound movement consists of 395 parts and runs at 3Hz (21,600 vph) with a power reserve of 60 hours. This movement is beautiful to look at, complex and focused on providing visual pleasure while in operation. Richard Mille skull replica watches

The Jacob & Co. Astronomia Sky, in 18k rose gold and blue (with a blue alligator strap), has a distinctly regal feel. This time around, Jacob & Co. didn’t include any diamonds on the watch, but if I know Mr. Arabo, future versions of the Jacob & Co. Astronomia Sky will. Like most watches produced by the brand, the Jacob & Co. Astronomia Sky is a limited edition, and this one is made up of just 18 pieces. I can’t wait to see the final version with a proper sapphire crystal, as I think this watch and the entire Astronomia collection represent some of the most interesting “on the market” watches that are clearly luxurious, but not the kind of watches we would immediately think would be best worn by an oligarch. I can imagine the Jacob & Co. Astronomia Sky on the wrist of a successful but benevolent ruler! Grand Seiko Heritage replica watches
